Many types of mold can be found in a variety of real estate where moist, warm and humid conditions exist. Penicillin is even a type of mold that is used to make lifesaving antibiotics. However, not all mold is as friendly. Toxic mold is extremely dangerous and can seriously affect the lives of you and your loved ones. Toxic mold – also known as cytotoxin – can often be found in buildings with current or past water damage.

Common physical symptoms of sick house include:

  • Fever
  • Runny nose that doesn't seem to go away
  • Stuffy nose that doesn't seem to go away
  • Frequent throat irritation
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • General feeling of malaise
  • Lung congestion
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Most often, toxic mold is present when a property owner has failed to care for the building he or she owns, but it can be related to:

  • Construction defects that allowed water to get into the foundation or inner structures of the building
  • Poor ventilation
  • Contaminated building materials that were used during the construction of the property
  • Flooding that was not properly handled
  • Inadequate roofing
  • Poor plumbing

Toxic mold strains can have serious health impacts on those who are exposed to it, especially if they are young or their immune systems are otherwise compromised. Getting rid of toxic mold is essential if it has been found in your home or your workplace, but removing the mold can be costly. Additionally, health care costs associated with the ill effects that toxic mold can have on a person are often astronomical.
